Abertay University and Kanzen Karate’s New Partnership

  • Submitted by: Michael Marra, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 30 January 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07664

That the Parliament welcomes the new partnership announced by Abertay University Dundee and Kanzen Karate to allow athletes access to elite health and sports performance academics and studies; recognises that this partnership has been launched in advance of Kanzen Karate hosting the World Union of Karate-Do Federations (WUKF) World Karate Championships in July 2023; understands that the partnership will be led by a leading academic in the field, Abertay’s Dr John Babraj, and Kanzen Karate’s coaching team; believes that the programme will give athletes access to knowledge, support and information that will allow them to drive their performance to new heights; recognises what it sees as the importance of universities in extending their work into the wider community; considers this to be clear evidence of Abertay University’s commitment to Dundee and Kanzen Karate’s goal to build better lives through Karate in Scotland, and wishes all involved the very best for the future.
