That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the outstanding contribution of the Scotland Malawi Partnership’s (SMP) outgoing chief executive, David Hope-Jones OBE, to the strengthening of the bilateral relationship between Scotland and Malawi; understands that David has led the Scotland Malawi Partnership for nearly 15 years, over which time he has helped create, it considers, one of the closest and most impactful two-way Global North/South partnerships; commends what it sees as David's value-led leadership at SMP, and through the Scottish Parliament's Cross Party Group on Malawi, which, it believes, has helped to deepen the social, economic and cross-party bonds between the two nations, and to empower SMP's sister organisation, the Malawi Scotland Partnership; applauds David's hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic where, it understands, he facilitated a hugely successful fundraising campaign that enabled Malawians to repair over £500,000 worth of lifesaving oxygen concentrators; acknowledges David as one of the youngest ever recipients of an OBE, aged 33 in 2016, which, it believes, demonstrates his tireless commitment to enhancing lives and promoting sustainable international development; thanks David for his service, which has benefited countless lives, and wishes him every success in his new role as chief executive of the South of Scotland Destination Alliance.
