Action for Children, Functional Family Therapy

  • Submitted by: Natalie Don, Renfrewshire North and West, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 01 December 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-07013

That the Parliament congratulates Action for Children on its 10th anniversary providing Functional Family Therapy (FFT) support, initially in Renfrewshire but now expanded to a further nine local authority areas across Scotland; notes that FFT is an evidenced based model and understands that it is a highly successful programme for reducing offending and improving family relationships; understands that FFT is delivered to families with children ranging from eight to 18 years of age, focussing on young people who are at risk of an out of home placement due to anti-social behaviour and/or various challenging behaviours; further understands that to date, it has helped over 1,000 families and that FFT has shown to be effective in reducing the number of young people entering care and is therefore part of helping Scotland Keep the Promise, and wishes Action for Children and its FFT service continued success.
