That the Parliament congratulates Scotland on being named the World’s Best Golf Destination, and Best Golf Destination in Europe at the 2022 World Golf Awards; notes that Scotland beat a strong list of nominees, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Dubai, Jamaica, Morocco, and Vietnam; understands that the occasion marks the first time Scotland took home the prize in the award's nine-year history; notes that 2022 was a successful year for golf in Scotland, with St Andrew’s Old Course hosting the 150th Open Championship in July; further notes that it is estimated that golf tourism is worth £286 million to Scotland annually, supporting around 4,400 jobs; congratulates Aberdeen’s Paul Lawrie, who won The 1999 Open Championship at Angus-based golf course Carnoustie, as well as eight wins on the European Tour, on being awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his success on the course and for the work of the Paul Lawrie Foundation in encouraging young people into the sport; recognises what it sees as the physical and mental health benefits that golf provides, and commends all green staff, club professionals and those who work in the wider golf industry for their valued contribution to the game.
