Neil Forbes Retires as Perth Show Secretary

  • Submitted by: Liz Smith, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 08 November 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06618

That the Parliament sends its best wishes to Neil Forbes, from Auchterarder, who is stepping down as Perth Show secretary after 18 years of service; understands that the 76-year-old has been involved with the show all of his life including notably leading the prize-winning Clydesdale at the grand parade to help a family friend at the age of seven; acknowledges the many roles that he has undertaken including gate-duty and stewarding, before eventually being asked to join the board as a director in 1990 and vice-chairman in 1999, and recognises the extraordinary commitment of Neil Forbes in the running of the annual show and particularly for steering the show competently through what it understands were some of its most challenging years, namely flooding in 2002, a foot and mouth disease outbreak in 2007, and torrential rain in 2012.
