King Charles III and the Queen Consort Visit to Dunfermline

  • Submitted by: Roz McCall, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 03 October 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06119

That the Parliament welcomes the news that His Majesty King Charles III and the Queen Consort will visit Dunfermline on 3 October 2022; understands that this will be their first joint public engagement since the period of royal mourning ended following the passing of Her Late Majesty Elizabeth II; notes that as part of their itinerary, their Majesties will attend an official council meeting at the City Chambers and visit Dunfermline Abbey to formally mark the former town in Fife's new status as Scotland's eighth city, which, it understands, was conferred upon the town as part of the celebrations marking the 70-year reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II, after successfully bidding for the honour under the Platinum Jubilee Civic Honours Competition; further notes that the royal engagement coincides with the 950th anniversary of the establishment of Dunfermline Abbey in 1072, and sends its warm wishes to The King and Queen Consort as they continue their lifetime of service to Scotland, the United Kingdom and The Commonwealth.
