Neilston Development Trust Support for Older Residents

  • Submitted by: Paul O'Kane, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 06 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05841

That the Parliament commends Neilston Development Trust, in East Renfrewshire, for encouraging and supporting older residents and individuals affected by long-term chronic conditions to take part in regular and simple physical activities and exercise; highlights that Neilston Development Trust offers expert-led strength and balance sessions to help members of the local community gain strength, improve balance and flexibility and increase confidence in movement in a safe and social environment; understands that these sessions are followed by short, fun and accessible health walks to increase walkers’ mobility; recognises that these activities have helped local residents stay physically active and independent despite suffering from various health conditions; believes that physical exercise benefits the participants’ physical health and brings positive impact to their mental and social wellbeing; notes that the group received support and funding from Scotland’s walking charity, Paths for All, and wishes Neilston Development Trust continued success in supporting older people and individuals who are managing long-term conditions to stay active.
