Shetland Gay Bird Club

  • Submitted by: Ariane Burgess, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 05 July 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05268

That the Parliament commends Gaada, a visual arts social enterprise based in Burra, Shetland, whose "Shetland Gay Bird Club" cards and pins aim to highlight that homosexuality is reportedly found in the natural world; congratulates the social enterprise on creating what it sees as a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community on Shetland; considers that Gaada creates thought provoking political art that is relevant to those on Shetland; notes that Gaada's Safeland project, which it understands extends Gaada’s safe space out into the landscape, is supported by Creative Scotland and the Shetland Charitable Trust, and celebrates organisers, Amy Gear, Daniel Clark and Vivienne Ross-Smith, for starting Gaada and making what it sees as a valuable contribution to Shetland’s vibrant creative arts scene.
