British Empire Medal for Kenneth Thomson

  • Submitted by: Donald Cameron, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 30 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05218

That the Parliament congratulates Kenneth Thomson, conductor of the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association (GGMA) since 1983, on recently receiving the British Empire Medal for his services to Gaelic music and culture; believes that this is a reward for the success of Kenneth and the GGMA choirs he has conducted at numerous Royal National Mòds over the years; notes that he has been a member of GGMA for 54 years despite not being a native Gaelic speaker and only having taken a crash course in the language at the age of 18; understands the dedication and passion he has for Gaelic music and culture, which, it believes, the Mòd does so much to foster, and wishes Kenneth many more years of success and enjoyment with GGMA.
