Forfar Stags Win the CSS Invitational Cup

  • Submitted by: Tess White, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 27 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05047

That the Parliament congratulates Forfar Stags on winning the CSS Invitational Cup, beating Scottish Borders Seniors 1-0 in the final; understands that the Stags reunited their 1990s pub team for a "one-off" game in 2020 in support of friend, Gordon Samson, and after which they rediscovered their passion for the beautiful game and began to play competitive matches; notes that the team, sponsored by the Stag Hotel in Forfar, won their group section, defeating Livingston, Denny Warriors and drawing with Celtic, 2-2, in Glasgow, before beating Raith Rovers in the semi-finals; understands that the winning goal was a late strike by wing-back, Stevie Milne, assisted by Lindsay Stewart, and wishes the team every success as they continue their successful return to competitive football.
