That the Parliament welcomes the work of Place2Be, which provides mental health support in schools through one-to-one and group counselling; understands that Place2Be currently reaches over 48,105 pupils and their families in 58 schools across 10 local authorities in Scotland; further understands that one in six children and young people have a diagnosable mental health condition and that half of those who experience lifetime poor mental health experienced symptoms by the age of 14; understands that 91% of pupils supported by Place2Be have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience; notes that, in Dundee, Place2Be works in partnership with three primary schools, one secondary school and the Offsite Education Service at Rockwell Learning Centre, and notes the findings of a Child and Adolescent Mental Health study by Place2Be and the University of Cambridge, which reportedly found that school-based mental health interventions may positively influence educational engagement as well as mental health.
