Highland Primary Schools Birdbox Project

  • Submitted by: Donald Cameron, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 09 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04718

That the Parliament welcomes the work of the Highland Primary Schools Birdbox Project, led by Tom Rawson, and supported by the Highlands and Islands Environment Foundation; notes the recent delivery of its 1000th bird box to a local school in the Highland Council area; recognises that the bird boxes are created using sustainable and recycled materials, and the location of each box is mapped using GIS data mapping; understands that each school receives 10 bird boxes, and that they are to be used as a tool for primary school teachers to improve and strengthen the link between their pupils and the wild world around them; notes that Tom has also supplied bird boxes to schools in the Scottish Borders area, and is hoping to expand the project into other local authority areas, and wishes Tom every future success with this innovative ecological scheme.
