  • Submitted by: Russell Findlay, West Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 06 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04657

That the Parliament commends the valuable work of British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland; notes that the charity operates 75 shops across the country, including eight in West Scotland region; recognises that these shops are dependent on 1,400 volunteers supporting the charity’s employees and that Volunteers' Week 2022 began on 1 June; understands that BHF Scotland saves about 7,500 tonnes of goods going to waste and re-sells 18,000 sofas annually, thereby encouraging the circular economy; notes that money generated by these shops contributes to the charity investing £60 million into life-saving heart and circulatory disease research; notes that heart diseases remain a major cause of death in the country, and commends BHF Scotland for playing what it sees as such a crucial role in dealing with these conditions.
