Asda Jobs Support for Ukrainian Refugees

  • Submitted by: Dr. Sandesh Gulhane, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 13 April 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04004

That the Parliament welcomes Asda’s job support scheme for Ukrainian refugees, which, it understands, guarantees an interview to any Ukrainian refugee applicant, with the relevant skills, who applies for a role across Asda and its procurement arm, IPL; understands that any Ukrainian refugees recruited as Asda colleagues will benefit from specialist colleague support initiatives such as the colleague discount card, access to wellbeing support services and Ukrainian language welcome packs to highlight the wellbeing support available; further understands that Asda is introducing badges for Ukrainian speaking colleagues to wear in stores to help customers from the country feel welcome, and commends the job scheme and colleague support initiatives, which, it believes, will provide meaningful and ongoing support to Ukrainian refugees in the UK by helping them find employment and to establish themselves in their new community at a time when they have been forced to abandon their homes in Ukraine and seek refuge.
