Positive Destinations for East Dunbartonshire School Leavers

  • Submitted by: Rona Mackay, Strathkelvin and Bearsden, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 24 March 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03438

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the tremendous efforts of all those in East Dunbartonshire who enabled, it understands, 98.6% of young people leaving school last year to be in a positive destination; pays tribute to what it sees as the outstanding dedication of teachers, support staff, pupils and their families in enabling young people to be in work, training or further study within three months of leaving secondary education; delights at what it considers to be the exemplary partnership-working of schools with local employers, training providers, careers services such as Skills Development Scotland, and the strong links with institutions delivering further and higher education; expresses its gratitude for what it sees as the commitment of the school leadership teams and the Chief Education Officer, Greg Bremner, in supporting schools in the local authority, especially through the challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic; commends what it sees as the efforts of school communities across the country in tackling the poverty gap to, it believes, support Scottish Government measures, which, it considers, enable young people to make choices, irrespective of their backgrounds, and wishes all recent school leavers fulfilment and success in their continued learning and chosen career paths.
