Questions and answers

Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

  • Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)
  • Other questions such as Topical, Portfolio, General and First Minister's Question Times are taken in the Chamber

To ask the Scottish Government what plans it has to mark Purple Day 2026 on 26 March to raise awareness of the 80,000 people in Scotland living with epilepsy, and which Scottish Government buildings and national landmarks, such as St Andrew’s House and Victoria Quay, will be lit up purple as a symbol of solidarity and to help reduce the stigma associated with the condition.

To ask the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update on its review of the effectiveness of section 40 of the Regulatory Reform (Scotland) Act 2014; what data it holds on the number of successful prosecutions under this section for "significant environmental harm" since its inception, and how it plans to address reported concerns from stakeholders that section 40 lacks the "apex" deterrent effect required to prevent mass environmental destruction.

To ask the Scottish Government what the current waiting times are for a neurodevelopmental assessment for (a) autism and (b) attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) within community paediatric services in each NHS board, and what its response is to reports that some boards have previously closed or suspended these waiting lists to new referrals.

To ask the Scottish Government what assessment it has made of the impact of reported deteriorating pavement conditions on the number of unintentional trips and falls among people aged 65 and over, and what data it holds on the annual cost to each NHS board of treating injuries, such as hip fractures, specifically resulting from falls on poorly maintained or untreated public footways (a) in each year since 2021-22 and (b) since April 2025.

To ask the Scottish Government, in light of information obtained by Animal Equality UK through a Freedom of Information request, which reportedly indicates that SEPA recorded 103 non-compliances at Scottish salmon farms in 2025, representing a 243% increase on the figure recorded in 2024, including 47 classified as major non-compliances, and that three quarters of sites found to be non-compliant over the last three years remain classified as non-compliant, whether it will commit to reviewing SEPA’s enforcement powers in relation to aquaculture.
