Commitments to date from the additional £150 million investment to improve mental health include:£54.1 million to support delivery of the Local Delivery Plan (LDP) access standards for both Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and psychological therapies to further reduce waiting times. This comprises £24.7million to NHS boards to increase capacity to deliver services; £24.6million to support development of the mental health workforce to deliver evidence-based therapies; and £4.8million to deliver the Mental Health Access Improvement Support Programme. £10 million to support new ways of improving mental health in primary care settings.A £15 million Mental Health Innovation Fund to support better access to CAMHS and to develop innovative approaches to delivering mental health services.£1 million to support people with mental health problems to become more physically active. £4.2 million to support people in distress who turn to frontline services.We are considering the priorities for the remainder of the funding as part of the development of the new mental health strategy due to be published later this year.

The following tables show the number of patients who have received cataract operations in (a) an NHS and (b) a private hospital in each calendar year since 1999 broken down by NHS board of residence. NHS boards have taken steps to improve the completeness of data recording on activity carried out in the independent sector since 2011. Therefore interpreting trends in the independent sector from these statistics should be treated with caution.

The Cleft Care Network began reporting cleft service audit outcomes by NHS board from 2013-14. Prior to that, the Network reported on Scotland wide performance. The most recently available information on the quality and performance of cleft care services is set out in the Cleft Care Scotland Report 2013-14 which can be accessed at:

Food poisoning was not included in the list of notifiable diseases in the Public Health etc (Scotland) Act 2008, and HPS do not provide data in this format after 2009. This change was made because many symptoms could fall under the umbrella term of food poisoning without actual confirmation of being caused by food or water or having laboratory confirmation of the cause of the illness. However, HPS do collect information on laboratory confirmed pathogens which can be caused by consumption of contaminated food or water, or have other modes of transmission (e.g. environmental or person-to-person spread), and this information is provided on the HPS website, at:

It should be noted that laboratory confirmed pathogens will only capture a small proportion of food poisoning cases each year as they require that a patient present for healthcare and that a sample is submitted.

Information on the number of teeth extracted is not collated. Information on the number of children undergoing tooth extraction is collated. The information has been placed in the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICE), under Bib number 58127. Information on the proportion of cases of non-consensual electroconvulsive therapy where depression was cured is not available centrally.

Information on how many cancer patients have been offered cryopreservation of (a) eggs, (b) sperm and (c) embryos in each year since 1999 is not held centrally. An expert Gametes Group will shortly begin work to look at protocols for patients who require fertility preservation.

The following A702 road safety schemes have been constructed this financial year:

Easter Howgate which was completed in April 2016 – This scheme involved the removal of a parking lay-by and a change in camber to the carriageway to reduce the possibility of vehicles leaving the carriageway. The scheme cost was £175k.

Carlops gateway treatment was partially completed in June 2016 – This scheme involves upgrading the gateway road markings and relocating two vehicle activated signs. The gateway road markings are complete and the relocation of the signs is programmed for later in 2016.

The following A702 road safety schemes are planned:

Garvald Bus Layby provision – This scheme involves the installation of a new bus lay-by and associated facilities (bus/ shelter) and will include resurfacing due to the change in alignment. This will be constructed in late summer/autumn 2016.

Biggar 20mph provision – This scheme was identified as part of Transport Scotland’s Pilot 20mph areas. The promotion of the pilot 20 mph limits proposed for the trunk road network is intended to support road safety generally, but target safety benefits for vulnerable road users in particular. We held an exhibition to consult with the community on our proposals. The next stage is to formally promote the orders for the proposed changes through the traffic regulation order statutory process. Before promoting the order we will consult with the community council and other stakeholders to gain their views now the proposals are finalised.

Hillend – We are currently looking to promote a no waiting/loading/unloading traffic regulation order at Hillend to improve junction visibility, reduce indiscriminate parking and improve traffic flow through the A720 Lothianburn junction. We are also considering feedback from the community regarding the installation of an uncontrolled crossing traffic island near the chiropractor clinic on the A702.

In addition to the previously completed works this year on the A702 there are a number of maintenance schemes programmed for the A702 for the remainder of this financial year. These include resurfacing schemes at:

Douglas Hill

Wandel Railway Bridge

Lawhead farm

North of Flotterstone

In addition to these resurfacing schemes there is a £185,000 Structural Maintenance scheme programmed for Hazlieburn to Rutherford.

As always, these programmed works are subject to available budgets and competing priorities across the network.

The A71 is not a trunk road and as such is the responsibility of the local authority.
