To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will cost the implementation of recommendations contained in the University of Glasgow's Department of Urban Studies report Refuges for Women, Children and Young People.
Answer
The Scottish Executive is currently in the process of completing the £12 million DomesticAbuse Refuge Development Programme, provided through Communities Scotland. Thisprogramme of funding was developed to either build or purchase new refuges oradapt, extend and upgrade existing ones. Once this funding programme has beencompleted the Scottish Executive will consider what further action is required.

To ask the Scottish Executive what response it has given to the recommendation for women who have been victims of domestic violence to be housed in purpose-built refuges containing single occupancy flats, communal areas and a children's room contained in the University of Glasgow's Department of Urban Studies report Refuges for Women, Children and Young People.
Answer
The Scottish Executive has accepted the recommendations in the report Refuges for Women,Children and Young People. It has already provided £12 million, throughCommunities Scotland, to either build or purchase new refuges or adapt, extendand upgrade existing ones. The programme has given priority to the developmentof new build self-contained flats with communal facilities.

To ask the Scottish Executive what actions will be taken to showcase Scottish musical talent at the MTV 10th anniversary awards to be held in Edinburgh on 6 November 2003.
Answer
The MTV Europe awardspresent an unrivalled opportunity to showcase the Scottish creative industriesand for networking with the global industry and industry journalists. ScottishEnterprise have worked with NEMIS (the Scottish music industry network) toensure that each delegate attending the awards will receive a speciallycommissioned Scottish Music CD, showcasing the best of Scottish music.
The MTV Breakout week ofevents in Scotland will feature new Scottish musical talent. All ofthese events will be recorded for screening on the MTV network, which is aphenomenal opportunity for these bands. Scottish public sector partners wereinstrumental in providing this opportunity.
Scottish music will featureat the reception which the First Minister is hosting for MTV at Edinburgh Castle toshowcase the Scottish creative industries.

To ask the Scottish Executive how long the pilot scheme for domestic abuse courts will run in Glasgow before being rolled out across Scotland.
Answer
Detailed proposals for theform of the pilot scheme, which are being considered by two working groupsoverseen by a steering group chaired by Sheriff Principal Edward Bowen, SheriffPrincipal of Glasgow and Kelvinside, have still to be settled. Once we are in aposition to make an announcement we will do so.

To ask the Scottish Executive what assessment is carried out on prisoners at HM Prison Barlinnie who spend long periods of time in their cells.

I have asked Tony Cameron,Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) to respond. His response is as follows:
Staff have regular contactwith prisoners at morning ablutions, meal times, recreation, exercise, visits,canteen and where it still exists slopping out times.
Prisoners can request to seeSPS Healthcare staff and are subject to assessment as part of the SPS suicideprevention strategy.
