Table 1 shows the median gross weekly full-time pay by gender, adjusted for inflation (at 2016 prices), for 1999 to 2016 .

Pay includes overtime

Information contained in this PQ is median weekly earnings for full-time employees. This measure is the main focus of the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2016 Bulletin published by ONS on 26 October 2016. Information is also publically available based on hourly and annual earnings, for part-time and all employees.

Earnings data have been adjusted for inflation to 2016 prices using Consumer Prices Index, CPI (all items): 1998-2016, ONS (Published 18 October 2016)

The gender pay gap for Scotland and earnings by gender are published by the Scottish Government at

Between 2015 and 2016, the gender pay gap in Scotland, based on median full-time hourly earnings (excluding overtime) has decreased from 7.7% to 6.2%.

Over the year median full-time hourly earnings (excluding overtime) for males increased by 0.4% to £13.85 in 2016, while median full-time hourly earnings for females increased by 2.0% to £13.00 in 2016.

The Scottish Government does not hold this information.

However, according to the Scottish Living Wage Accreditation Initiative, there are 469 Scotland headquartered accredited Living Wage employers in the Private Sector. They estimate that these organisations employ approximately 118,000 people and that, of these, at least 3000 employees have benefited from an uplift in their wages as a result of accreditation.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde continue to have access to orthopaedic activity at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital. In 2017-18 Greater Glasgow and Clyde have been allocated 560 joint replacements and 170 non joint procedures at the Golden Jubilee for their patients.

The use of reported Zero Hours Contracts in Scotland’s labour market is lower than in the UK as whole. (Scotland 2.2%, UK2.8%).

In 2016 Scotland remains the best performing of all four UK countries with the highest proportion of employees paid the Living Wage or more (79.9%) and the number of Scots-based Accredited Living Wage Employers is now over 785.
