Question

To ask the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update on the number of staff working in the NHS.


Answer

Under this Government, the number of staff working in NHSScotland has increased by over 12,000 Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) to a record high total of 139,262.0 WTE.

This includes record high numbers of qualified nurses and midwives, which have increased by 6.8 per cent to 43,820.9 WTE, and a 45.7 per cent increase in consultants, which have increased to 5,299.6 WTE.
