Question

To ask the Scottish Government what services will be available at the new East Lothian community hospital and when people will be able to access these.


Answer

Construction programmes are being finalised for the new facility and the current Roodlands services will be maintained throughout the build programme. NHS Lothian are planning for a phased handover and at this time it is anticipated some outpatient services, such as imaging will be available in the new hospital by mid-2018 with full occupation anticipated in mid-2020.

Services currently planned include:

Gynaecology

Ophthalmology and retinopathy

Neurology

ENT

Dermatology

Cardiology and aortic screening

Urology and enuresis

Audiology

Child medicine and surgical

Musculo-skeletal and Rheumatology

Medical and Medicine for the Elderly

Dentistry

Podiatry and orthotics

Diabetes

Ante natal

Dietetics

Medicals for taxi drivers

 

There are recurring changes to the availability and frequency of the clinics.

Occupational Therapy

Physiotherapy

Pharmacy

Music therapy

 

In-patient wards

IPCC

Mental Health for Elderly

Orthopaedic rehab

Non acute medicine/Medicine of the Elderly

 

Treatment floor (day cases):

Endoscopy

Minor surgery

IV treatment (transfusions and infusions)

UV treatment

 

Staff support area:

Office space for community based staff groups e.g. Care Home Team, Learning Disabilities Team, Hospital at Home, domiciliary AHPs, Mental Health home team, District Nurses, Hospital to Home, Macmillan Nursing service.
