Questions and answers

Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

  • Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)
  • Other questions such as Topical, Portfolio, General and First Minister's Question Times are taken in the Chamber

To ask the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to improve the recruitment of social workers in Scotland, in light of the findings of the report Setting the Bar for Social Work in Scotland that the number of graduates from social work courses fell for five years in succession between 2013 and 2018 as a result of two undergraduate courses closing rather than a shortage of applicants.

To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S6W-06942 by Clare Haughey on 14 March 2022, regarding the £25 million in funding made available over the last five years to support the training of social workers, whether it will provide a breakdown of how the funding has been spent, and how many more social workers have been (a) recruited and (b) retained in the workforce as a result of this funding.

To ask the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to improve the recruitment and retention of business support staff across all social work team types, in light of the findings of the report Setting the Bar for Social Work in Scotland that there has been an average loss of 32.9% of staff in this role between 2019 and 2020.
