I will wind up. I believe that such a decision is one for the incumbent minister, whoever that might be. We might have a commitment from the current minister, but it will be within the minister of the time’s discretion whether consultation is carried out. I recognise that the minister who is here today has written to the committee about the process and development of the statutory code of practice in other areas.
However, I do not think that the Government should have any fear of the provision being included in the bill. A verbal commitment from one minister might not be something that we would get from another in the future, so there should be no concerns about putting that requirement in the bill.
I intend to press amendment 78.
