Health, Social Care and Sport Committee

NHS boards scrutiny

Background

In January 2023, the Committee agreed to carry out one-off evidence sessions with all 14 geographical NHS boards and the following special NHS boards:

  • Scottish Ambulance Service
  • NHS24
  • the Golden Jubilee Hospital
  • the State Hospital

The focus of these evidence sessions was NHS board performance, financial sustainability and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. We also looked at key issues related to workplace culture and workforce.

Each NHS board was invited to submit the following in advance of giving evidence:

  • With respect to the Board performance escalation framework, an update of the Board’s current status and business case. This should include specific actions, allocated resources and how outcomes are being evaluated for addressing:
  • Financial sustainability
  • Mental health services
  • Elective waiting times
  • Paediatric audiology

Latest status and trends for staff turnover, vacancy numbers, and workforce planning

An overview of key issues facing the NHS board, and priority areas for Scottish Government action.
