1 Consideration of continued petitions:

The Committee will consider the following continued petitions—

PE1804: Evidence session: Halt Highlands & Islands Airports Ltd.'s Air Traffic Management Strategy. The Committee heard evidence from petitioner Peter Henderson, and then from David Avery, Prospect. The Committee agreed to consider the evidence heard today at a future meeting.

PE1812: Protect Scotland's remaining ancient, native and semi-native woodlands and woodland floors. The Committee agreed to undertake a visit to an ancient and/or native woodland to explore the issues raised in this petition. It also agreed to write to the Scottish Local Authorities and Scottish Forrestry. 

PE1837: Provide clear direction and investment for autism support. The Committee agreed to write to the Minister for Mental Wellbeing and Social Care. 

PE1845: Agency to advocate for the healthcare needs of rural Scotland. The Committee agreed to invite the Petitioner to provide evidence at a future meeting.

PE1862: Introduce community representation on boards of public organisations delivering lifeline services to island communities. The Committee agreed to invite the Minister of Transport to provide evidence to the Committee at a future meeting. 

PE1867: Establish a new national qualification for British Sign Language (BSL). The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Sensory Hub, Alliance.

PE1890: Find solutions to recruitment and training challenges for rural healthcare in Scotland. The Committee agreed to invite the Petitioner to provide evidence at a future meeting.

PE1909: Remove the "gender-based crime" domestic abuse narrative and make it gender neutral and equal. The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government, Police Scotland, Mankind Initiative, Paul Lavelle Foundation and Men’s Aid Ireland.

PE1911: Review of Human Tissue (Scotland) Act 2006 as it relates to post-mortems. The Committee agreed to write to the Crown Office, Procurator Fiscal Service and the Coroners’ Society of England and Wales and other relevant stakeholders. 


2 Consideration of new petitions:

The Committee will consider the following new petitions—

PE1929: To run an advertising campaign to raise public awareness of the forthcoming pavement parking ban. The Committee agreed to close this petition under Rule 15.7 of Standing Orders on the basis that the Scottish Government has committed to undertaking an advertising campaign to highlight the effects of inconsiderate parking. This will take place ahead of the introduction of new Penalty Charge Notice provisions next year.

PE1931:  Improve the R100 rollout by prioritising properties who currently have speeds of less than 5 Mbps. Fergus Ewing declared an interest as a former Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Connectivity. The Committee agree to write to the Scottish Government and the relevant contractor.
