Railway Policing (Scotland) Bill - Amendment 2

  • Submitted by: Douglas Ross, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 08 May 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-05423.2

As an amendment to motion S5M-05423 in the name of Humza Yousaf (Railway Policing (Scotland) Bill), leave out from “agrees” to end and insert “does not agree to the general principles of the Railway Policing (Scotland) Bill because a majority of respondents to the Justice Committee’s call for evidence opposed the full integration of the British Transport Police’s Scottish division into Police Scotland and concerns were raised by some stakeholders that the Scottish Government only consulted on one model for railway policing in Scotland; supports the devolution of the functions of the British Transport Police to the Scottish Parliament as recommended by the Smith Commission, but believes that this recommendation can be achieved through improved scrutiny by, and accountability to, the Parliament of the British Transport Police’s D Division, alongside a closer alignment of respective policing policy and initiatives."
