Health, Social Care and Sport Committee

Social Care Stakeholder Session

Meeting date: 28 September 2021

Evelyn Tweed

I thank everyone for their contributions so far. I am interested in funding, and in particular in what Fiona Collie just said about the scale of change and what we are actually trying to achieve with a new national care service. In addition, I am interested in issues on data and so on, which were raised earlier.

In the redesign of the national care service, and if we are to excel in preventative care, with all the new measures that we want to bring in to make it a great service for people, can we ensure that costs can be contained in the long term, or is it your view that costs will always increase?

Perhaps Fiona Collie can go first.

Health and Social Care Finance Stakeholder Session

Meeting date: 28 September 2021

Evelyn Tweed

I am interested in some of the early comments that the panel made. How do we give managers the headroom to deal with future and preventative care and to provide an exceptional service, rather than having to deal only with the present conditions and backlog?

Scottish Government Priorities

Meeting date: 23 September 2021

I am really pleased to hear that there is cross-party input and that we are all working together to see a good conclusion to the work. Will we be able to implement something by the end of session 6?

I am very interested in a minimum income guarantee, as I think the public are, too. How challenging will it be to put that in place?

Public Health Stakeholder Session

Meeting date: 21 September 2021

My questions are about the moniker that Scotland has had as “the sick man of Europe”. Does that moniker still apply to Scotland?

NHS Stakeholder Session

Meeting date: 21 September 2021

We have talked a lot about the health and wellbeing of our healthcare staff and professionals, but what can we do immediately to support them, give them a listening ear and ensure that they know that they are valued? A lot of the things that we have been discussing are quite medium to long term, and I would like to hear what we can do right now.

Pre-budget Scrutiny 2022-23

Meeting date: 16 September 2021

The contributions that you have made this morning have been very powerful, and I find myself sighing quite loudly—I think that the convener has glanced at me a couple of times to see that I am okay. What makes me interested in this debate and how we are moving forward is the fact that I am getting a lot of letters from anxious constituents asking how they are going to deal with the cuts to universal credit and how the Scottish Government will mitigate what they are frightened is coming. Which of the polices in the programme for government do you think will have the greatest impacts?
