  • Submitted by: Jackie Dunbar, Aberdeen Donside, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 10 December 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02515

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement of this year’s Scottish SPCA campaign #keepmeoffyourxmaslist, to urge the public not to buy a puppy as a Christmas present; understands that, from the start of January to the end of October 2021, there was a total of 1,059 calls made to the Scottish SPCA animal helpline regarding low-welfare puppy breeding, which was an increase of 357 calls in one year; understands that, according to the Scottish SPCA, a total of 56 puppies have been seized so far this year by their special investigations unit, and urges members of the public to bear in mind, not only over the festive period but all year round, the warning signs that indicate that they may be buying a pet from a low-welfare dealer.
