Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Creative Commons

  • Submitted by: Claire Baker, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 30 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02288

That the Parliament celebrates the 20th anniversary of Creative Commons, a non-profit organisation, which it understands provides licences to give a free, simple and standardised way to grant copyright permissions; recognises that Creative Commons licences aim to remove legal and technical obstacles to enable the global sharing of knowledge and creativity; understands that Creative Commons licences have unlocked nearly two billion works, including all Wikipedia content, which has been published using a Creative Commons licence, since 2009; congratulates Creative Commons on increasing access to what it sees as valuable information, historic images, scientific articles, educational resources, cultural artefacts and more, and agrees that greater access to information could mean a stronger global community and increased innovation and capacity to solve key challenges that the world faces today.
