  • Submitted by: Bob Doris, Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 29 October 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01813

That the Parliament offers its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the Copperworks Housing Association’s Chairperson, Jim Laing, who sadly passed away on 3 October 2021; acknowledges the dedication that Jim has shown to the Royston community over many years, including firstly as Vice Chairperson of Copperworks Housing Association for eight years, and subsequently as Chairperson for the last three years; pays tribute to Jim’s substantial efforts and absolute commitment to help successfully secure the acquisition and remediation of the "Triangle" site in Royston, which brought a longstanding piece of derelict land back into community ownership; acknowledges Jim Laing’s role, through his active work within the Royston Strategy Group, in supporting Spire View Housing Association’s successful efforts in securing funds to redevelop the dilapidated Rainbow Hall into the Roystonhill Community Hub, which is now a state-of-the-art community building, which is very well used by many in the local community every day, and believes that the dedication, determination, commitment and passion of Jim is a shining example of the efforts that community activists and volunteers the length and breadth of Scotland demonstrate to make their communities a better place to live, and whose legacies, such as Jim’s, are evident in the achievements secured for the benefit of the community for generations to come.
