Scottish Football Association's CashBack for Communities Project a Huge Success

That the Parliament commends the Scottish Football Association’s CashBack for Communities project, which develops football based programmes in order to raise the attainment, ambition and aspirations of disadvantaged young people across Scotland; notes that the project consisted of two branches: My Football Community, and My Volunteer Inspire Project; understands that those taking part in My Football Community were given opportunities to attend a curriculum based School of Football, enrol in coaching courses with local clubs, and gain access to GoFitba, which is a football based health and wellbeing project; further understands that those taking part in the My Volunteer Inspire Project were involved in a tailored pathway of development for young people aged between 16 and 24 with an interest in pursuing a career in football related fields such as coaching, refereeing, administration, event management, and physiotherapy; recognises those hard workers who were able to ensure that aspects of the project were able to be delivered online during lockdown periods; praises the project’s success despite the pandemic, which saw 1,680 participants, 2,352 volunteering hours completed, 1,710 healthy meals or snacks delivered via GoFitba Holiday, 591 coach education courses delivered, 123 SCQF accredited courses delivered, 13 Schools of Football run, and recorded that 45% of participants came from within the 20% most deprived areas in Scotland; acknowledges the benefits of the project for young people across Scotland, and notes that the project has reported significant increases in the confidence, resilience, motivation, optimism, and skillsets of those who took part in the project.
