  • Submitted by: Jim Fairlie, Perthshire South and Kinross-shire, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 21 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00434

That the Parliament congratulates Kinross Colts FC, its committee and coach, John Murray, on organising a mini football tournament as part of Refugee Week 2021; notes that participants included young people who have come to Scotland as unaccompanied child refugees; commends the club for its efforts to use football as a means of both marking Refugee Week and welcoming young people from around the world who have come to Scotland; recognises that these young people do not seek pity but, rather, prefer to be treated with dignity and respect and to be able to make a safe, fresh start; commends the work of Jenni McRae, a social worker with Perth and Kinross Council, who is the first contact locally for unaccompanied child refugees, and her description of these fine young people as "New Young Scots", and congratulates the Kinross 2005 team on winning the tournament trophy, the Kinross-shire Friendship Cup.
