That the Parliament notes that Drowning Prevention Week takes place from 19 to 26 June 2021; further notes that the aim of the week is to reduce the amount of drowning and non-fatal drowning incidents that happen in the UK every year, and equip people across the UK with knowledge about water safety; understands that the 2020 water-related fatality data showed 39 accidental fatalities in Scotland; recognises that swimming is an opportunity that many young people have missed out on during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with education around water safety, and that promoting sources on water safety is therefore essential, and acknowledges the important work done by the Royal Lifesaving Society to educate on water safety, and the online resources that provide guidance to ensure that children have the skills to enjoy waterways and surroundings safely through the summer.
