Condemnation of Current Violence in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories

  • Submitted by: Anas Sarwar, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 19 May 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00054

That the Parliament condemns all violence and the appalling loss of life in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories; calls on the Scottish Government, the UK Government and the UN to put pressure on Israel and Hamas for an immediate ceasefire; considers that, at the heart of this conflict, there is the ongoing illegal occupation, illegal settlement growth, illegal siege of Gaza and ongoing breaches of international law and human rights violations, all of which it believes must end with an immediate reconvening of meaningful peace talks conducted by a third-party interlocutor from the international community to deliver peace and justice; believes that any prospects of peace are fading fast and that the loss of hope would have devastating consequences; considers that Benjamin Netanyahu is currently a blockage to peace and that all possible pressure should be applied on him and his government to positively engage and act, and believes that there will only be justice when the State of Palestine is internationally recognised and when every Israeli life and every Palestinian life is seen as, and treated as, equal.
