PDA Day

That the Parliament welcomes PDA Day 2021, which took place on 15 May; acknowledges that PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) is widely understood to be a profile on the autism spectrum; understands that this annual event is designed to increase understanding of PDA as a profile on the autism spectrum, manifesting in the avoidance of everyday demands, an anxiety-driven need to be in control, and the use of "social" strategies as part of this avoidance; notes that PDA can be difficult to diagnose because an individual’s presentation may be quite different to what some people think autism "looks like", and accepts that, under the diagnosis of autism, a clear signpost to the PDA profile could improve outcomes for individuals and families.
