Success for Isle of Barra Distillers

  • Submitted by: Rhoda Grant, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 19 January 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07541

That the Parliament congratulates the Isle of Barra Distillers for successfully securing a deal that will see the award-winning Barra Atlantic Gin being sold at Waitrose stores and partner stores throughout the UK; wholeheartedly congratulates the family business, run by Michael and Katie Morrison, which was founded in 2017, and aims to capture the essence of the island; understands that the gin is distilled using locally hand-harvested carrageen seaweed that is sustainably sourced from the shores around their island home; believes that this will bolster the distillery, and understands that they are looking to expand their team on the island, venture into whisky distilling, continuing to produce fantastic island products, whilst bringing immense socio-economic benefit to the islands and harnessing community spirit.
