Commending Michael Williams

  • Submitted by: Neil Bibby, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 10 January 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07426

That the Parliament commends seven-year-old Michael Williams on his efforts in raising over £800 for the charity Mary’s Meals; understands that Michael was inspired by a talk at his local church about the charity and wanted to do something to help the children that rely on these meals in countries like Kenya and Yemen; further understands that Michael decided to take on a sponsored walk at a distance of 10 km, with the aim of raising enough money to feed two children for a year at £15.90 a child; notes that he raised an incredible £370 overall, and that once gift aid and Mary’s Meals match-funding campaign were added, it increased to over £800; understands that this amount is enough to feed 50 children for a school year and that Michael expressed that he felt incredibly proud that so many people helped him to raise the funds to help the children, and once again congratulates him on this fantastic achievement.
