Launch of Stornoway North Community Fridge

  • Submitted by: Alasdair Allan, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 08 December 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-07135

That the Parliament congratulates the team behind the Stornoway North Community Fridge, following its recent launch; notes that the Community Fridge is located in the Cearns Taigh Cèilidh building in Stornoway; understands that this is the first community fridge to be launched in the Western Isles; recognises the fantastic efforts of local volunteers; considers that initiatives like this, while making a real difference to the lives of many in the local community, cannot be expected to fully tackle what it believes to be the poverty that the cost of energy, changes to the benefits system, inflation and austerity are creating, and expresses its gratitude that so many people in this local community, and in other communities all over Scotland, are dedicating their time and resources to helping their neighbours through the ongoing cost of living crisis.
