  • Submitted by: Alasdair Allan, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 08 December 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-07134

That the Parliament congratulates the Uist Virtual Archaeology Project on winning three categories at the Archaeological Achievement Awards, coordinated by the Council for British Archaeology; notes that the project was shortlisted in two categories, Archaeological Innovation and Public Dissemination or Presentation, and was presented with the overall award for Outstanding Archaeological Achievement; understands that the Awards aim to celebrate archaeological achievements from across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland; further understands that the Uist Unearthed app, produced by the Uist Virtual Archaeology Project, in partnership with UHI Outer Hebrides and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, offers bilingual Gaelic/English augmented reality reconstructions of archaeological sites along the Hebridean Way, complemented by an interactive multimedia exhibition; considers that the prizes represent well-deserved recognition of the project’s work to raise the profile of lesser-known yet remarkable archaeological assets in Uist to a wider audience, developing the heritage and tourism sectors in the Outer Hebrides; commends the other Scottish projects shortlisted in the awards, including Scotland Digs 2022, Crafting the Past: Shared Histories, and Lost Inverlael: A’ Lorg Baile Bhlàir, and hopes for the continued success and expansion of the project to incorporate other sites in the Western Isles.
