  • Submitted by: Stephanie Callaghan, Uddingston and Bellshill, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 01 December 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-07041

That the Parliament congratulates Scottish Racing on winning the Racing Together Community Award at the 2022 Racecourse Association Showcase Awards for its sustained efforts in leading and collating community-based activity across racing’s stakeholders in Scotland and the north of England; understands that the Showcase Awards are particularly prestigious given that the Racecourse Association, which was formed in 1907, serves the interests of 59 member racecourses across the British mainland; further understands that in winning the Racing Together Community Award against the highest quality field, Scottish Racing is encouraging new audiences to horse racing in Scotland through its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion across all five Scottish racecourses; notes that, during a great night for Scottish horse racing at the Showcase Awards, Hamilton Park won the Racing Post Readers' Award, as voted by the horse racing public; further notes that Hamilton Park was the clear winner of the readers' award, polling most votes and obtaining the highest average score across each of the categories, value for money, customer service, and overall race day experience, and wishes the Scottish horse racing sector, which, it understands, is the second most attended sport in Scotland and employs more than 3,700 staff, a full and successful recovery from the turbulent legacy of the COVID-19 pandemic.
