Vale of Leven Hospital staff win Wounds UK Excellence Award

  • Submitted by: Jackie Baillie, Dumbarton, Scottish Labour.

  • Motion reference: S6M-06887

That the Scottish Parliament congratulates staff at the Vale of Leven Hospital for their innovative project to reduce the incidence of avoidable pressure ulcers due to what it sees as poor documentation and also the time spent recording duplicate information on patient care notes through the ABCD approach; notes that this won the Wounds UK Excellence Award at the recent Wounds UK conference in Harrogate; thanks those who developed the project, which was led by Heather Hodgson, Lead Nurse in Tissue Viability; understands that instead of registered nurses spending up to 45 minutes per shift on paperwork, this has been cut to just 10 minutes per shift allowing more time for direct patient care; further understands that the scheme has also reduced the incidence of pressure ulcers among patients, and notes that the method will now be rolled out across all NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde sites due to its success.
