Prestwick Golf Club Awarded Best Golf Course in Scotland

  • Submitted by: Siobhian Brown, Ayr, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 18 November 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06846

That the Parliament commends Prestwick Golf Club for being awarded the title of Scotland’s best golf course at the 2022 World Golf Awards in Abu Dhabi; understands that Scotland was awarded the title of the best golf destination in the world; notes that this is the first time in six years that the award was not given to Portugal, and that it is the first time that Scotland has won this award; recognises that Scotland was also awarded the best golf destination in Europe; understands that winners were chosen by tour operators, the media, and fans around the world; applauds Prestwick Golf Club for its success, given the stiff competition of other courses in Scotland and in Ayrshire; believes that the award is especially fitting, given that the Open Championship began at Prestwick Golf Course; recognises that Scotland is the birthplace of golf; understands that golf contributes around £300 million a year to the Scottish economy; congratulates Prestwick Golf Club for taking a leading role in the golf industry, and wishes it the very best for the future.
