  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 26 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06024

That the Parliament commends the Orkney Careers Fair, which took place on 15 September 2022 in the Pickaquoy Centre, Kirkwall; understands that it was the second Careers Fair to be organised by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Orkney and Skills Development Scotland (SDS) in Orkney; notes that over 60 exhibitors, including many local businesses, universities, training and employment providers and support services, were represented at the free event, which was attended by hundreds of pupils, young people, parents and guardians; believes that the Orkney Careers Fair is an excellent initiative, which provides a vital opportunity for young people in Orkney to gain a greater insight into potential careers, future vocational and academic pathways and how to access expert support available locally, and thanks all the organisers, exhibitors and schools who helped make the event a huge success.
