  • Submitted by: David Torrance, Kirkcaldy, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 26 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06012

That the Parliament congratulates the Balwearie High School Department of Additional Support (DAS) in Kirkcaldy on winning the best school award at the Kingdom FM local hero awards; notes that the best school award recognises schools and pre-schools, which have developed unique initiatives in addition to the standard curriculum, has strong ties to the local community and ensures that all pupils reach their full potential; understands that DAS promotes a positive learning environment, which, it believes, caters to the learning needs of pupils, who, for many different reasons, are unable to access learning in a mainstream environment; further understands that DAS provides education for secondary aged pupils with a wide range of additional support needs including physical, intellectual, social and emotional, and that the department also caters for pupils who have significant complex needs; recognises the hard work and dedication of the DAS staff members who, it understands, have worked tirelessly to help their pupils work to the best of their abilities, and wishes the Balwearie DAS staff and their pupils all the best for the future.
