Charity Football Match Nets Huge Windfall for Diabetes Charity

  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 23 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05874

That the Parliament warmly congratulates Steve Johnston and Lee Anderson, who organised a charity football match in Castle Douglas between DuPont and waste collection staff from Dumfries and Galloway Council to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; understands that the game played at Meadow Park on 28 August 2022 raised £1,500 for the charity; recognises the importance of the charity to both Lee and his wife, Soenaid, who live in Kirkcudbright, after their teenage daughter, Maisie, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2015; appreciates the support provided by local businesses including Shelia’s Taxis, DuPont and the Market Inn; notes that Soenaid, a local pharmacist, will be competing in next month’s London Marathon to hopefully raise further funds for the charity, in the hope of increasing their charity contribution to more than £6,000 in the last year alone, and wishes them all good health in their future charity ambitions to raise funds for such a worthy cause, given the number of reported cases in the region.
