Blood Cancer Awareness Month

That the Parliament recognises that September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month; understands that blood cancer is Scotland’s fifth most common cancer and the third biggest cancer killer; further understands that blood cancer is also the most common type of childhood cancer, and that the risk of a diagnosis increases with age; commends what it sees as the significant progress in the research and treatment of blood cancer, which it understands has seen increasing numbers of people survive; commends leading third sector organisations, including the Blood Cancer Alliance, for the fundraising activities and campaigns undertaken to raise public awareness; recognises the vital work of oncology medical staff across the country who provide vital treatment to save lives from blood and other cancers, and strongly encourages people in Scotland to learn more about blood cancer and particularly its symptoms in order to improve earlier detection and the start of treatment.
