Scottish SPCA Pet Aid Service

  • Submitted by: Maurice Golden, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 02 August 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05575

That the Parliament welcomes the Scottish SPCA Pet Aid service, which it understands is being introduced on 2 August 2022 to support those impacted by the cost of living crisis; recognises what it sees as the critical service that the Scottish SPCA provides to support people and their pets, particularly those impacted by the cost-of-living crisis; understands that the Scottish SPCA expects a greater influx of animals into its animal rescue and rehoming centres for reasons such as neglect, abandonment and relinquishment, which, it believes, will add to the pressure that their frontline services already feel; welcomes that the Scottish SPCA’s Pet Aid programme will provide what it sees as an invaluable form of support to pet owners in 12 local authority areas in Scotland, and understands that Pet Aid is a pilot project, which the Scottish SPCA is fully committed to expanding to help people and pets nationwide.
