Celebrating 75 Years of "Taxis To Troon"

  • Submitted by: Pauline McNeill, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 23 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05042

That the Parliament congratulates the Glasgow taxi drivers and everyone involved in fundraising and organising the 75th annual Taxis To Troon trip for children; notes that around 300 children with special needs were taken in a convoy of decorated taxis from Glasgow to Troon for a day at the seaside on 15 June 2022; believes that the event, which was cancelled twice due to COVID-19, is organised by the city’s taxi trade, with other supporters of the initiative including the Celtic FC Foundation and Laurie Ross Insurance, and has been running since 1945; understands that taxi drivers in Glasgow have experienced a difficult few years themselves, and commends their continued commitment to helping children with special needs by providing this joyful and colourful outing, and wishes the organisers and all the participants every success with their future events.
