  • Submitted by: Annie Wells, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.

That the Parliament congratulates Cleeves Primary, on Househillmuir Road, for being the only school in Glasgow chosen to take part in a free programme, run by Disney Musicals in Schools and Scottish Opera; notes that the programme aims to build skills and confidence in both pupils and teachers, encourage participation and collaboration, and leave a sustainable arts legacy for years to come, especially in schools that are actively seeking greater engagement with the arts; acknowledges that the pupils started working with two music and drama artists from Scottish Opera’s Outreach and Education Department, with step-by-step workshops covering every aspect of casting, rehearsing, staging and performing a 30-minute version of The Lion King; notes that the teaching artists guided pupils through music and movement and also worked with staff to give them experience in singing, stage directing, choreography and stage management, and understands that the Southside pupils performed the version of The Lion King recently and will also be sharing their performance on stage at the Edinburgh Playhouse on 13 June 2022, which it hopes will be a roaring success.
