Newmains Library, 60th Anniversary

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 18 May 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04455

That the Parliament recognises that 2022 marks the 60th anniversary of Newmains Library; understands that that the library relocated to the new NTC centre in 2015, which is sited almost on top of the library’s original location; further understands that public libraries attract 40 million visitors every year, with public libraries dating back to the 1850s in Scotland; considers that libraries have changed over the decades from places of books to places which offer digital skills training, online events, multimedia platforms and space for community group events, providing what it sees as a vital resource and role within local communities; encourages everyone to support and promote their local libraries; thanks all library and archive staff across Scotland for their dedicated service to local communities, and wishes Newmains Library best wishes and success for the future.
